How to Consign at Margaret's

What We Accept

Clothing must be current styles, not more than 3 years old, and must be freshly laundered or dry cleaned and should be on hangers. We cannot accept items with spots, holes, tears or missing buttons. Accessories such as purses, hats, shoes and jewelry must be in like-new condition.  Household items must be in good condition; clean with no chips, stains or broken parts.  Margaret’s Inc. reserves the right to accept or reject any item for consignment. In the chance that an item(s) is accepted but upon later inspection is found to be unfit to price and place on the floor, the customer will be contacted to pick up item(s) within three (3) days or said item(s) will be donated or discarded per discretion of Margaret’s.

When We Accept

Merchandise is accepted Monday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Our receiving window is located outside at the rear of store. For your convenience, you may drive up and drop off your items at the window; however new consignors must come into the store to sign a Consignment Agreement. In respect to both our employees and other consigners, the receiving window will NO LONGER be able to check on account amounts. In order to check on, pay out or pick up items you must come in to the payout office window.

How Your Items Are Priced

Margaret’s is committed to pricing your items at a level that will most likely result in a sale. Our experienced staff research current prices, and is well versed on what is selling well in our store at particular times of the year. Consignors may set a minimum at which to sell an item, or set an actual price for an item.  In such a case, however, the Pricer may reject any item that they believe will not generate a sale at the price at which the customer is willing to sell. A $2.00 handling fee is applied to items that sell under $100.00 and a $5.00 handling fee is applied to items that sell over $100.00.

How We Pay

Commissions are paid for items sold in accordance with the Consignment Agreement. The specifics of the Agreement will be reviewed with you at the time the Agreement is signed. In general, however, commissions are calculated based on the price sold, less the $2.00 & $5.00 handling fee, and range from 50% to 60%, depending on the price range. Consignors may collect on their account at the Payout Window inside the store Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We cannot give account information out over the phone, however we can indicate whether or not you have a balance with no specifics.

What If My Item Does Not Sell

The quality of merchandise we accept, together with our attractive sales floors and exceptional customer service, combine to maximize the potential for sales.  All items under $100 are kept on the floor for 60 days, after which they expire. Items priced over $100 are given a further discount after 60 days, and will remain on the floor for an additional 30 days, after which they too will expire. Consignors may pick up their unsold items at any time. Unclaimed items are donated to charity, further reduced and sold, with proceeds used to fund charities, or discarded at the discretion of Margaret’s.
